Thirty years ago, we started AfricInvest as a small and mid-cap private equity fund manager. Since then, we have grown to become a leading Pan-African multi-asset investment platform that delivers value and impact for our investors, portfolio companies and communities. We strive to provide attractive risk-adjusted returns while supporting African entrepreneurs in driving inclusive and sustainable growth. We have maintained this investment ethos in a rapidly changing world, and this requires making decisions that are uniquely adapted to our environment. We are pleased to present these accomplishments in this year’s report—grateful for the contributions of our portfolio companies whose efforts have been instrumental in our success, and to our team members, partners, and collaborators for their expertise and dedicated to our shared vision.Download report
Over 900 million people provided with essential products and services including food, education, health, technology and financial products and services in 2022
In 2022, our portfolio companies realized impact across our pillars of sustainable economic development, environmental sustainability, equality and inclusion, and quality institutions, networks, and services. In 2023, AfricInvest introduced the Multiple of Impact (MOI) model to add a new layer of depth and rigor to our impact measurement and management processes. We are proud of these results, but we still endeavour to continuously sharpen our impact theses and improve our management capabilities to enact our vision for driving inclusive and sustainable growth alongside attractive financial returns.
Our pan-African investment platform provides financial and non-financial support to aspiring entrepreneurs and companies alike, creating a strong and inclusive African private sector and positively influencing the livelihoods of the communities they serve. In addition to delivering financial returns to investors, we are intentional about creating authentic and positive impact through our funds, and rigorously measuring and communicating this impact.
At AfricInvest, we strive to maximize our own impact and push our own boundaries to take a more outcome-focused measurement. To convey the impact created by our portfolio companies, we need both numbers and stories. We share these stories with you to bring our impact metrics to life. As they have galvanized action among our team, these stories inspire us to continue positively influencing the livelihoods of the communities we serve.
We believe in the power of our capital to drive authentic, measurable and sustainable change. Looking ahead, we want to place climate at the heart of our investment decision-making by deepening our climate measurement and management. We believe that private sector investments can be an important enabler of the continent’s climate mitigation and adaptation solutions.
As an example, we recently collaborated with The Carbon Trust to design and develop new tools as part of our Just Net Zero strategy. Within the next year, we plan to roll out a robust roadmap, taking into account both our direct and direct emissions, and engaging our portfolio companies to magnify our combined impact.
